Your Great Name

May 19, 2016 By Erin Beasley

“You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.” – Exodus 20:7

It’s easy to think of this command as a behavior issue, i.e., “don’t use bad language!” However, the command, like all the others, is a heart issue. God asks that his people treat his name with the respect, awe, and adoration it deserves. It is not to be misused or neglected; rather, it is to be hallowed (Matthew 6:7-15) and given glory (Psalm 115:1).
