The Form (and Content) of It

Natural beauty is its own form and contentI occasionally play with the form and content of the posts found on this site. Sometimes, it’s a test of reception. I want to know if the writing style or subject matter is welcome even if it’s only welcome by a few. Other times, it’s simply a way to test myself, to explore different ways of saying things, or to think through things such as perfectionism or writing through the ugly middle.

A tweet is an incredibly appropriate size for a poem. – Not Dead Yet: How Technology is Saving Poetry

Poets seem almost inevitably drawn toward Twitter. The challenge of communicating something, anything, within 140 characters is irresistible. It’s a space that requires sparseness of language and clarity of thought. It is, in some ways, akin to the traditionally known haiku with its five-seven-five syllable scheme. It is a place with a strict form – how to manipulate the content to fit within it?

"Once upon a time" often signifies a certain form and type of content.Form is one of my cherished topics for a couple of reasons. One, I have a visual arts background. Two, I have a poetry background. Three, I have a marketing background. All those things involve “form” in some shape or manner.
