Sacrament: Communion

September 22, 2016 By Erin Beasley

With this hand lettering exercise, I wanted to recall how rich the sacrament of communion is. It’s easy to forget; I’ve grown up in the church and been a believer for a long time. Because of that, I need to be reminded of the complexity and beauty of communion.

Partaking in the sacrament causes me to remember what Jesus has done for me: he lived a life of perfect obedience; died on a cross to assuage God’s wrath; and rose again so that anyone who believes can have a living hope. He defeated sin and death–for me.

I also proclaim who Jesus is in the present. I declare he’s my Savior and Lord. He bought me at a great price; therefore, I am not my own. My life is to bear fruit for God (Romans 7).

I proclaim hope, too. I take the sacrament until Jesus comes again. When he does, we will enjoy a feast together. It’s going to be amazing.
