Remember the Sabbath Day

May 26, 2016 By Erin Beasley

With the fourth commandment, I was able to combine two of my art loves: illustration and handlettering. I’m somewhat happy with how the work turned out; I’ve realized I missed the “in peace” from the verse in Psalms. It bothers me since I believe it to be a critical word.

In any case, I do like the look of the thing, and I especially like my silly lion creature. I wanted to capture how rest isn’t a burden (even though I sometimes act like a two year old at the thought of the idea) and how the sabbath is meant to remind me of God’s care and love for me. I can both lie down and sleep–in peace!–because God is the source of my safety and security. I can rest in him. I can be Mary instead of Martha.
