“Here am I. Send me!” — Isaiah 6:8
I tend to associate Isaiah’s words with the people who go—the people who move overseas and share the gospel in unreached parts of the world. And yet, his words find a home in my heart, too. More and more often these days, my heart cries, “I want to be useful. Use me, God!”
If anyone ever tells you that being creative is easy or gets easier, look him or her in the eye and say, “You’re a liar.” Go ahead. I give you permission because here’s the grim, true reality: being creative is hard.

Lugubrious hints at a definition with its sound. The rare person might be able to speak the word in staccato, but most people roll the word off. It comes out slow and somehow depressing. As such, Eeyore epitomizes the adjective.
As a writer or artist, ruts come easily. The finished product may be good, excellent even, but it falls within acceptable limits. As an example: my poetry. My standard style employs short lines and couplets. I like it; it gives room for invention. However, it quickly becomes “du jour”—in graduate school, people could identify my poems by the lines, no name or signature required. The form grew restrictive, definitive.
Oh, okay. Few people probably know the word “kawaii,” but I do. It means “cute” in Japanese, and I share it because of this ridiculous cat. Isn’t it the cutest, funniest thing ever?! Mine is somewhere in transit, and I plan to name it Harvey since I didn’t bring home the kitten I found while helping with cleanup in the Houston area.
