Jason Konopinski: Chibified, not Chubbified

As the winner of the drawing held in honor of the Write Right Launch Party, Jason Konopinski has been chibified. He is pictured with Bailey, his dog, and a novel – or perhaps a collection of poems – by Jack Kerouac. In the story I’ve created, the two are at the dog park. Bailey has fallen asleep after chasing some squirrels, giving Jason some time to read.

Ursula has a way of instilling fear.I’ve been making many choices in relation to Write Right lately. For instance, I’ve been choosing a web host provider. I’ve also had to decide upon and to work with a WordPress theme because I’m no web developer, and I need a framework upon which to build.

Write Right: Say No to Exclamation Points

Write RightI avoid exclamation points like they’re the plague. Don’t get me wrong; I’ll use them in texts, instant messages, or Facebook updates. When it comes to writing a blog post or an article, though, I hate using them. I think they’re a nuisance and, usually, unnecessary.

Are closed doors negative things?The creative life may be one of saying “yes,” but it necessarily also is one of saying “no.” To say “yes” to one thing is to say “no” to another thing. Both answers are frightening; the one incurs risk, and the other closes doors.

Productive Meditation

Productive meditation doesn't have to occur in a meditation room.I recently finished reading Patrick Rhone’s Getting It Straight. The book’s a delightful read, and I couldn’t begin to discuss it in detail. It covers too many topics: you, me, and everything else. Several ideas found within the book captured my attention, though. One of them was meditation.

Say Yes

Say yes to creative risks.The other day, I had the opportunity to hear Kat Edmonson, a jazz singer, talk about her singing career. She posited that the creative life is one of saying “yes” and of being willing to take opportunities and chances. I share her sentiments toward the creative life, so it was a joy to listen to her speak about her own journey.
